IBM's continued investment in our world-class Java implementation, includes important and valuable enhancements to the core runtime technology. The latest release, IBM Java SDK version 6, is faster in start-up and industry benchmarks, more capable in code sharing and servicability and scalable across very large data heaps. This talk will touch on the highlights of IBM's current runtime technology, then look to the future of Java runtimes at IBM. What are the challenges IBM see in the coming year? What is happening in the standards space around Java technology? How can the runtime be used enhance your application's capabilities and offer new business opportunities?

Tim Ellison:

Tim Ellison (IBM Hursley)\n\nTim is a senior technical staff member in the Java Technology Centre at IBM Hursley Park. He has contributed to the implementation of Smalltalk, IBM VisualAge Micro Edition, Eclipse and the Java SDK over a period of twenty years. Tim is a vice president of The Apache Software Foundation where his current focus is on open source engineering in the Java platform. He speaks at conferences worldwide and is particularly interested in new ways of applying technology to difficult problems.
